MONTCALM Dear Hubert Desgagnés:
Thank you for your kind comments about the model of the Amanda. You are right, it is so hard to make models of the goélette's as the plans are so hard to find. I took several years of photographs before making the model, and was a full two inches off on the beam, and the break of the bow should be wider. I am trying to remember the name of the fellow with museum on Au Coudre, Mauris DuFor? He measured my model of the Amanda Transport and found it was two inches too narrow. Here is a photo of your grandfather's goélette GENERAL MONTCALM. I photographed many of the boats for many years, and will try and find more of the ones I made of the Montcalm.
Again, thanks
Lorcan
PS Here is a translation... I hope I get close to the meaning... of the entry about the G Montcalm... from the book L'ERE DES GOELETTES DU SAINT-LAURENT by Antoine Coté

The lumber schooner ( Goélette ) G Montcalm was built in 1939, at St Joseph-de-la-Rive by master carpenter Albert Audet and his brothers Antoine and Joseph Capt. Joseph Desgagnés also of St. Joseph-de-la-Rive.

Following the death of Capt. Desgagnés, February 17, 1945 his widow Emélia Audet- Desgagnés became the owner of the goélette.

April 17, 1954 ownership was divided into 21 shares to Captain Gerard Desgagnés and Capt. Jean Paul Desgagnés, and 13 shares each to Capt. Robert and Denis Desgagnés. Capt. Jean Paul Desgagnés and Capt. Gerard Desgagnés acquired the shares of two shareholders and became owners.

They resold it on May 16, 1960 to Capt. Nérée Harvey, of Ille Au Coudres who operated it until the end. It was decommissioned by Canadian Transport on Nov. 6, 1973.
